What is a School Counselor's Role on Campus?
We.....
- Plan, organize and facilitate Positive School Behavior System activities (i.e. Grad Night, Popsicle parties, quarterly celebrations, and school dances)
- Ensure that 100% of all students are scheduled appropriately with individualized educational needs addressed
- 100% of all students have access to the School Counselor for counseling, advisment, referrals, etc
- Serve as crucial members of the School Based Leadership, Multi-tiered System of Supports, Child Study/Attendance Teams
- Mrs. Norton is the Restorative Practices Trainer for PPMS
- Provide students with classroom guidance
- Provide small group instruction
- We schedule parent/Teacher conferences
- Individual counseling services as needed, such as 504 implementation and facilitation coordination, counseling for students
- Consultation with teachers and staff for student success
- Student advocacy
- Family referrals for outside resources
- Academic Advising
- Coordinator of articulation activities (from elementary to middle and from Middle school to high) such as visits to feeder school, orientation nights and other activities
- Student referrals to academic programs (such as scholarship opportunities)
- Love all the students, all the time!
